Cardiff was polled one of the best cities in Europe to live in and the area has transformed itself into an attractive place to live. The Cardiff council is using its Local Development Plan to develop and improve areas such as Butetown and the city centre to attract even more people to the region. This plan includes more than 41,000 new homes to be built by 2026 of which 23,000 have either already been built or are in the planning stages. An industrial estate in Cardiff’s city centre is being transformed into a new community that will include more than 2,000 homes.

A recent study has ranked Cardiff one of the UK’s 12 largest cities by measuring a range of economic indicators such as house price growth, rental costs, salaries, living costs, unemployment rates and “life satisfaction”. Cardiff scored above average on every factor of the study with 92% of people surveyed saying they liked living in the Welsh capital.

It has been said that in 1901 at the Coal Exchange in Cardiff Bay the world’s first £1,000,000 cheque was signed.  In 1914 Cardiff became the biggest Coal Port in the world and was an important part of the world economy. Enjoy a walk around the barrage enjoying the history of the place and look out over the water, its a great place to spend time.

World’s Oldest Record Store

Spillers Records was established in 1894 and is the oldest record shop in the world. When opened the shop specialised in the sale of phonographs and these days they offer vinyl, CD’s and tickets for local gigs. The shop was facing closure when landlords tried to put the rent up on the premises but after community support to keep the shop open they have now moved to Morgan’s Arcade.
